Forgotten Tools

Some things disappear without telling us.

Today, I was just scrolling through my mobile in one hand and holding a hot of cup of tea in the other, when a strange realization crossed my mind.

In the past two decades, mobiles have come a long way.
They have become smartphones.

But in this becoming…
They have made us forget many things.

Things that were once tools.
Tools that were an important part of our lives.

Mobile has now become almost everything.

It is a camera.

A torch.

A calendar.

An alarm clock.

The internet.

A gaming device.

A radio.

A walkman…

And much more.

I remember, as a child, my house had all these things.

A clock on the wall.

A calendar hanging beside it.

A torch kept somewhere safe.

A camera used only on special occasions.

A tape recorder playing songs in the background.

There were cyber cafés.
Phone booths.

All of them… gone.

Without leaving a trace.
Just like that.

As if they never existed.

And yet, they remain a deep part of my childhood—
something I will always cherish.

So now, this phone in my hand feels like the culprit.
Like it erased all of them.

But maybe… that’s not true.

Maybe the real culprits are us.

We wanted one thing that could do everything.
A jack of all trades.

And in that wanting…
we let go of everything else.

So today,
I decided to pause…
for a moment.

To feel a little gratitude…
for those Forgotten Tools that once served us.

That were once a part of our lives!
